Burger King to start home deliveries in the US
While most people do not think that jumping into a car and grabbing a burger is all that much hard work it appears that Burger King thinks so because the company has been toying with a home delivery service for its burgers in several US states. It quietly started trialling the programme in Florida earlier in November and it seems to be a hit.
Pizza has always been a favourite delivered food item, but the thought of a burger that does not have crispy lettuce or soggy cold fries is not so appealing. Despite this fact, Burger King claims that it has figured out how to use thermal packaging technology to make sure that its food items get delivered in decent condition. This delivery service includes using thermal boxes that have flaps built into them to house several parts of the burger.
The drive-through already helps lazy people avoid having to get out of their car, but this new expansion suggests that customers are prepared to be even lazier as the delivery stores are already out earning more than the restaurants that do not deliver burgers in their respective regions. The company has already started delivery from 45 stores and plans for thirty more to start offering delivery as well.
This may be an attempt by Burger King to get back its number two position in the US which was stolen from them in the last year by Wendy’s. Others believe that the delivery service may be the last hope because they have lost a lot in profits.
At the moment BK has not announced any home delivery services for its UK stores, but it is only natural to assume that if they are successful others might soon follow suit, opening up an entirely new business atmosphere for fast food.
