New food facts in ads set to shock viewers
New graphic advertisements displaying startling facts about foods consumed everyday will debut on television later today, the government having granted them the go ahead. Change4Life’s new adverts showing how a cola bottle contains as many as seventeen sugar cubes and how a large pizza has fat that would easily fill a glass of wine will expose hidden and nasty facts about such food.
ITV’s first health focused advertisement block will comprise of these adverts, made by Aardman, the creators of Wallace and Gromit. A part of the New Year campaign that aims at motivating the viewers to be more thoughtful of the fat, salt and sugar contents of the food they eat, this advertisement slot will be aired in Coronation Street’s prime time. It will also have advertisements from Uncle Ben’s, Cravendale, the Co-Op, Asda and Quorn.
Also, several attractive offers about healthy products and interesting low calorie food recipes like vegetarian chilli and stir fried turkey will be shown, the idea being to fuel a movement towards healthier routine diets in the United Kingdom. Obesity is a growing concern, both for people and government, with the annual cost of tackling obesity problems to NHS being £5bn. Obesity and related problems lead to 40,000 deaths annually, and what’s more startling is that the plethora of cases of obesity in primary school going kids is on a rapid rise.
Anna Soubry, the Public Health Minister addressed the issue and said, “By visually explaining the problems that thoughtless eating can bring about, and offering attractive discounts on alternative health products, the Change4Life campaign has been instrumental in helping a million moms change for the better. However, the obesity rates and figures in Europe are discouraging”.
