RECIPE: Minced Beef and Dumplings
You think of Heston Blumenthal and immediately your mind conjures up images of outrageous creations using such ingredients as dry ice in his molecular gastronomy. While we marvel at his television shows which highlights his excellence at combining cookery with science, and producing food items that have seen him described as both a lunatic and a genius.
One thing we tend to forget, however, that underneath all this he is a master chef who still produces ordinary food, albeit of an outstanding quality. Heston has teamed up with supermarket giant Waitrose to give us a chance to see his own recipes for delicious, every day dishes such as traditional mince and dumplings.
A series of videos has been released where the great man himself introduces his recipe and tells us what tweaks and tips he has to make a good meal into a great one. The recipe itself is then made for us by Jonny Lake, the head chef of Heston’s world famous restaurant The Fat Duck.
Even something as simple as mince and dumplings can be turned into a gastronomic delight, not to mention the fact that is the perfect dish for cold autumn evenings, real comfort food. It certainly isn’t difficult to cook the Heston way as Jonny demonstrates, and just the addition of a different ingredient or mixing something a certain way can elevate this dish to greatness.
